Old wiring is not automatically dangerous
Intact original wiring that has not been buried in insulation or extended with modern circuits can be fine for now. What makes it dangerous is almost always what somebody added to it later — a modern circuit spliced onto cloth-covered conductors, junctions buried inside a wall, or insulation packed over wiring that was designed to shed its heat into open air. We will look and tell you whether yours is a this-year job or a plan-for-it job.
Living in the house while it is rewired
A rewire is done in stages for exactly this reason. We work one area at a time so the kitchen, a bathroom and somewhere to sleep keep working, and you know which rooms lose power on which days. Aluminum branch wiring is often a different conversation again, because in some houses the connections can be corrected rather than the whole run replaced.
How to judge a rewire quote
A whole-house rewire priced as one bare number with no scope behind it is a guess wearing a decimal point. Ask which circuits are in it, how the openings get handled and who patches them, whether the panel is included or extra, and whether the permit and the inspections are in the price. Staging it, the way we do, also means you can see what each stage buys before you commit to the next one.

Conductors dressed, breakers labelled properly, and a panel schedule the next electrician can read.

We meet the inspector, and you get the paperwork. A job with no record is a job you have to explain later.
Rewiring & Old Homes: common questions
Do you have to tear the walls apart?
Usually not most of them. Fishing cable through existing walls and working from attics and crawlspaces is a large part of the skill, and the unavoidable openings get grouped where patching is easy. You see where we have to open up before we start.
Does my insurance company care what wiring I have?
Some insurers ask about knob-and-tube or aluminum and some treat it differently from modern wiring — they will tell you what they want to see. What we can do is document what the house actually has, what got replaced, and the permit and inspection record for the work.
Can we do it a bit at a time?
That is how most of them go. Each stage is its own scope, its own fixed price and its own inspection, so you can stop at the end of one and pick it up later. We will tell you which stage to do first if the budget only covers one.
