Why the diagnosis is the whole job
A system that will not start has a dozen possible reasons, and several of them look identical from the thermostat. Swapping the part that failed without finding out what killed it is how the same call happens again in a month — a burnt contactor usually points at something upstream of it. We test until we can tell you what failed and why, in words that make sense.
What happens on the day
We start at the easy end: thermostat, filter, breaker, condensate switch, because those account for a fair share of dead systems. Then the readings come out, and you get told what we found and what it costs before anything is taken apart. If a part has to be ordered, we say so rather than leaving you waiting to find out.
How to judge a repair-or-replace quote
Ask which component failed, what refrigerant the system uses, and what else is close to the end of its life. A quote that arrives without those three answers is a sales pitch, not an assessment. We quote the repair first and show you the arithmetic if replacing is genuinely the better call.
How A Visit Goes
- 01
We Come And Diagnose
A real diagnosis, not a glance at the age plate. You get told what has failed and why, in words that make sense.
- 02
Repair Is Quoted First
If it can be fixed economically, that is the quote you get. A replacement number only comes out when repair genuinely does not make sense, and we will show you the arithmetic.
- 03
Sizing By Calculation
For a replacement, we measure the house — insulation, windows, ducts, orientation — instead of copying the old unit's label. Oversized systems short-cycle, run humid and wear out early.
- 04
Installed And Commissioned
Charged to spec, airflow measured, ducts sealed and every register balanced. An install that is not commissioned is only half done.
- 05
You See The Numbers
Temperature split, static pressure, and the settings we left it on — written down, so the next person has a baseline.
Repairs & Same-Day Service: common questions
My system just stopped. Is there anything I should check before calling?
Check the filter, the breaker, the thermostat batteries and the switch on the furnace or air handler — they get bumped more often than you would think. A full condensate pan can also shut a system down on purpose. If none of that is it, leave it off and call.
Will you try to sell me a new system?
No. We quote the repair first, and a replacement number only comes out when the repair genuinely does not make sense — and then we show you the arithmetic instead of asking you to take it on faith. Plenty of our visits end with one part.
Can you fix it on the first visit?
Usually, when it is one of the parts we carry. Some components have to be ordered, and a system that is out of production takes longer to source. We tell you which one you have while we are still there.
Heating & cooling throughout east Multnomah County
Most of our work is in east Multnomah County and the neighborhoods around it. Two weeks a year everybody calls at once — the first hard frost and the first real heat — so if you already know your system is on its last season, booking outside those weeks gets you a better job and a shorter wait.
