What a tune-up is really buying
It is not the cleaning. It is that somebody reads the wear parts before the weather does. Capacitors drift, igniters crack, contactors pit and refrigerant charge drifts off spec, and every one of those leaves a measurable trace before it strands you. Catching them in the shoulder season also means you are not waiting in the two weeks of the year when everybody calls at once.
The two things that matter most between visits
Change the filter, and keep the outdoor unit clear. A clogged filter starves airflow exactly the way undersized ducts do, and a system starved of air runs hot and dies young. Outside, keep shrubs, leaves and dryer lint off the coil and leave clear space around the cabinet. Those two jobs need no tools and no one to book.
How to tell a real tune-up from a look
By the numbers. A proper visit produces readings — temperature split, static pressure, charge, capacitor values — and a visit that produces none of those was an inspection at best. Ours get written down and left with you, so next year there is something to compare against and you can see for yourself what is drifting.

Repair Is Quoted First
If it can be fixed economically, that is the quote you get. A replacement number only comes out when repair genuinely does not make sense, and we will show you the arithmetic.

Sizing By Calculation
For a replacement, we measure the house — insulation, windows, ducts, orientation — instead of copying the old unit's label. Oversized systems short-cycle, run humid and wear out early.

Installed And Commissioned
Charged to spec, airflow measured, ducts sealed and every register balanced. An install that is not commissioned is only half done.

Maintenance & Tune-Ups: common questions
How often does the system need servicing?
Once a year for a furnace or a heat pump, and twice if you run cooling hard, since a heat pump works the whole calendar. Booking outside the first cold week and the first hot week gets you a better appointment and a shorter wait.
How often should I change the filter?
It depends on the filter and the house — a thin one in a home with pets loads up quickly, a deep pleated filter lasts much longer. Look at it monthly until you know your own pattern, and change it when it looks gray rather than on a date.
Nothing seems wrong. Do I still need a tune-up?
A system that is about to fail usually still seems fine to the person living with it, because the early signs are electrical readings and pressures, not noises. That said, if yours is newer and was commissioned properly, we will tell you that rather than pad the list.
