What the weather does to paint
Rain, moss and long damp stretches get in through any gap and push paint off the wood from behind. That is why the caulk, the primer and the drying time matter more than the name on the can.
When we paint outside
Paint needs a dry surface and the right conditions to cure, so exterior work is booked around the weather rather than the calendar. If rain moves in, we stop and come back. Painting over damp siding is how a new paint job starts peeling early.
Before we start
We walk the outside with you and point out any rot, soft trim or damaged siding. Repairs like that are priced separately in writing, so they never turn into a surprise halfway through the job.
How A Job Runs
- 01
We Walk It With You
Room by room or wall by wall. We look at what is under the old paint, because that is what decides the price.
- 02
You Get It In Writing
Surfaces, prep, primer, number of coats, and the product line by name. One price, and what would change it.
- 03
We Protect The House
Furniture moved and covered, floors down, trim and glass masked, plants and hardscape sheeted outside.
- 04
Prep, Then Paint
Wash, scrape, sand, fill, caulk and prime. The part nobody sees is the part that decides how long it lasts.
- 05
You Walk It Before We Leave
We go around together in daylight with a pot of paint still open. Anything you point at gets fixed then, not scheduled.
Exterior Painting: common questions
When is the best time to paint a house exterior?
When the siding is dry and the weather will stay dry long enough for the paint to cure. In practice that means calling ahead of the dry season, because exterior slots fill up first.
Do you fix rotted wood before painting?
We point it out on the walkthrough and price the repair separately in the quote. Painting over rot hides it for a season, and then it comes back through the paint.
Will you pressure wash the house?
The house is washed before any prep, with the pressure matched to the siding. Some surfaces need a gentle wash rather than a blast that drives water in behind the boards.
Painting homes throughout Clackamas County
Most of our work is in Clackamas County and the neighborhoods around it. Exterior slots fill up before the dry season, so if you are thinking about the outside of the house it is worth calling early — inside, we work year round.
