Most of our work is in Washington County and the neighborhoods around it. Older housing stock is a large part of what we do, so if your house still has a fuse box or wiring nobody has looked at in forty years, that is a normal call and not an embarrassing one.
Switch that circuit off at the panel if you can reach it safely, or the main if you cannot. If there is smoke, visible fire or a smell that will not clear, get out and call 911 — not us first. Once it is safe, call and we will come and find the cause. This is the one situation where a website is not the right tool.

Not automatically. Intact knob-and-tube that has not been buried in insulation or extended with modern circuits can be fine for now; the danger is in what has been done to it since. We will look and tell you whether it is a this-year job or a plan-for-it job.
Usually most of it. Fishing cable through existing walls, using attics and crawlspaces and grouping the unavoidable openings is a large part of the skill. You will see where we have to open up before we start, not after.
