The main shut-off is usually where the supply enters the house — a garage wall, a crawlspace, a utility closet — and there is normally a second one at the street under a metal lid. Close it, then open the lowest tap in the house to drop the pressure out of the pipes. That one move is often the whole difference between a repair and a floor, and it is the first thing we talk about when you call.
Why the price comes before the wrench
An emergency is the worst moment to be quoted by the hour, because the meter runs while you stand there with no way to judge it. We look first, then give you one flat number for the repair, and the rate does not change because it happens to be a weekend. If a second problem turns up behind the first, you hear about it then and decide then.
The part nobody can see yet
A leak inside a wall or under a slab is a diagnosis before it is a repair, and any plumber who names a repair price before finding it is guessing. We price the finding first and the fixing after we know what we are fixing. When we open something up, you get to look at what we found rather than take our word for it.

Emergency Repairs: common questions
Should I turn the water off myself before you get there?
Yes, if you can reach the valve safely. Close the main, then open the lowest tap in the house to let the pressure out. If you cannot find the valve, call and we will walk you through where it usually hides in a house like yours.
Can you tell me what it will cost over the phone?
For a fixture or a visible pipe, often a close range. For anything behind a wall or under the floor, no honest plumber can, so we price the diagnosis up front and the repair once we can see it. Either way the number is agreed before we start.
The leak seems to have stopped on its own. Do I still need someone out?
Usually yes. Leaks that come and go are often pressure-related or seasonal, and the water has already been somewhere you cannot see. It is worth a look while it is a small repair rather than after the drywall gives up.
