What counts as light plumbing
Anything reachable without opening a wall: fixtures, traps, valves and the parts inside a toilet tank. Re-piping, drain lines, water heaters and anything behind the drywall belong to a licensed plumber, and handing it straight over costs you less than finding out halfway through.
A running toilet is worth fixing now
It is a cheap part and it wastes water the whole time. The same goes for a weeping shut-off valve: small today, a real problem on the day you actually need to shut the water off.
Before you buy the fixture
If you have already bought a tap or a shower head, keep the box and the instructions. If you have not, tell us which sink or shower you have and we will tell you what fits before you spend the money.

Light Plumbing: common questions
Do I need a plumber or a handyman?
Fixtures, toilets, traps and disposals are handyman work. Water heaters, re-pipes, drain lines and anything inside a wall need a licensed plumber, and we tell you which one you have before we start.
Can you fit a tap I bought myself?
Yes, as long as it fits the sink you have. Send a photo of the sink and of the tap box if you are not sure.
There is water under my sink — can you find it?
We can trace and fix a leak at the trap, the supply line or the fixture. If it is coming from inside the wall, that is a plumber's job and we say so.
